Ashvin Kumar was the first Indian director to be nominated for an Oscar, and what’s more, it was for his first film, The Little Terrorist, released in 2004. Now with three films under his belt and The Forest soon to go on release, he joins us to talk about his personal philosophy of filmmaking.

Growing up in Pakistan, Ayesha Khan noticed the religious drift of the country towards a stricter form of Islam influenced by Wahhabism over the course of her youth. Her first film Kashf explores Pakistan’s
relationship with older Islamic traditions in the country such as Sufism. She joins us to talk about, amongst other things, Sufism, filmmaking and working towards a revival of cinema in Pakistan.

Bhusan Dahal has been a media face in Nepal for many years, having presented and produced many television programmes, and directed music videos for the country’s top bands. His first film, Kagbeni (2007), was hailed by many as the best Nepali film to date. Tonight he talks about how he came to make a modern film suffused with ancient magic.
